Placekicker Jay Feely has amassed two consecutive 100-point seasons in his first two years as a Falcon

After setting a record for field goals (32) and attempts (40) in a season, exclusive rights free agent Jay Feely re-signed with the Falcons on Friday.

April 18, 2003 The Atlanta Falcons today announced they have re-signed third-year placekicker Jay Feely. Terms of the contract were not disclosed by the team. As an exclusive rights free agent, Feely had completed less than three accrued seasons when his previous contract expired. He was able to negotiate or sign only with the Falcons, because the club tendered at least a one-year contract at or above the required minimum. If the Falcons chose not to tender an offer to Feely, he would have been free to sign with any club with no required compensation to the Falcons. Feely established a Falcons record with 32 field goals on the 2002 season, besting the 31 field goals by PK Morten Andersen in 1995. Feely’s 40 attempts were also a Falcons record, besting the 38 attempts by Nick Mick-Mayer in 1973.Feely is also the first Falcons kicker to have back-to-back 100 point seasons (115 in 2001 and 128 in 2002) since PK Morten Andersen had 104 points in 1997 and 120 points in 1998.View a complete list of Feely's milestones.
